Life in Tokyo #61: A Day in The Country
I take a trip to the mountians outside Tokyo for a one day escape from urban life. It was nice to get out of the city, however brief. I got back in touch with the non-metrosexual manside by grilling meat over hot coals and having a warm schvitz. I wish I could do this every weekend, but sadly life in Tokyo is mostly working for the man. For those curious about costs and such: Log Cabin: 5,000 yen (Per person, cabin sizes range from one person to groups of 6) Bar-b-que Rental: 2,000 yen (including charcoal) Train ticket: 2,600 yen one way (depends on which train though) Bus: 620 yen one way Onsen: 500 yen Groceries: 3,000 yen Charring meat: Priceless English Ok. Pets Ok. But you must return the cabin to the state you found it in. I highly recommend this for families, especially if you can drive. Using public transport was a bit of a pain in the ass, and limits your options if you are staying for more than one night. ***Also, just a reminder I'll be broadcasting live on BlogTV Wed and Thursday at around 11am Tokyo Time. My guest on Thursday will be Mike from the K-1 kickboxing video. He is back in town for work and will stop by to discuss readjusting to his new life Los Angeles after 20 years living in Tokyo. Should be a really fun time. Check out the webpage for info, and a time countdown to when the broadcast airs in your neck of the woods if you are confused by time zones. http://blogtv.com/people/tokyocooney Seriously... check it out. Music: "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" - Flat & Scruggs "Gotta Travel On" - Billy Grammer "Overland Blues" - The Yoshida Brothers "Bloody Mary Morning" - Willie Nelsonカテゴリー :Travel & Events

I'm wondering how you pickle cucumbers. I asked a bunch of people when I was in Japan last and they were really vague about what you marinate it in.

He hee, the little frog was all the way up there to recommend a beverage for you!

after living in kyoto for the last 3 years, i thought almost all city buses used the pay per distance system. i guess living in kyoto, i'm still a country boy.

Kev, what if you were short of yen and literally didn't have enough? Episode of cops?
yoyodojo4 2008-09-24
Sorry if I missed this in your video, but what is "schvitz"? (Sounds Yiddish). Is that "bath"?
Archronos1 2008-09-24
pintsallround, i didn't look at the video description, thats why i asked. It was a mistake. Humans do that and its not 'dumb'. 'Dumb' would be me looking and the description and then asking how much it cost him. Don't take it out on other people because its your time of the month buddy.

Great Vlog Kevin. Nikko is a nice place to visit. That winding mountain road going up to that famous temple is pretty wild. I told the bus driver "great driving" when we got there.
Enjoyed your video as always. Can't wait until the next one

I googled for 'Okorogawa (Little Come River).' It is said that the name was taken from some 13th century Japanese poetry which described this village as 'a place where a small river runs thru'.
